Deletion discussion about Jamie Spears

[edit]

Hello, Lowellian, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Polyamorph, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Jamie Spears, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jamie Spears.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Polyamorph}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

"Anyone can edit"

[edit]

You are the person who edited the main page of Wikipedia in November 2004 to say that Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that "anyone can edit".

I can see in other history that from 2001 the landing page at wikipedia.org said "You can edit this page right now!"

Are you the originator of the specific phrase, "encyclopedia that anyone can edit"? I know it is just a rephrasing of what people had been saying for years, but that wording has become popular. Do you remember making this edit? I am sure that many people had been discussing Wikipedia in various ways, but do you recall other people discussing the phrasing, or did you just do this spontaneously? Bluerasberry (talk) 16:33, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I am. Before that time, I had already been thinking [1] about how to improve the wording of various elements on the Main Page. My edit summary for the edit [2] that made the change was "intro should explain why wikipedia is special". Basically, I just asked myself, what makes Wikipedia special/unique among all the other encyclopedias out there that users should use this encyclopedia instead of other encyclopedias? And to me, ultimately, above all else, it was that anyone could edit it, so I felt that should be the first thing any visitor to the website sees. At that time, the Main Page had on it, "Visit our Community Portal to find out how you can edit any article," and I thought, we can make that turn of phrase shorter and simpler and move the emphasis from being able to edit any article to anyone being able to edit and to put that into the very first sentence, so that's what I did. —Lowellian (reply) 17:11, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing that 2004 talk page message. I looked around also. I also think this is the origin of the phrase.
I tried to document it at q:special:permalink/3147057/3116026#2004
Do you find my documentation acceptable or have other thoughts on it? Bluerasberry (talk) 17:27, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the documentation that you're doing. I would remove the link to the 2004 talk page discussion, as it's actually not relevant, as it is discussing changing the wording of a different sentence on the Main Page rather than the actual "anyone can edit" sentence, which I added without mentioning on the talk page first (I only gave the talk page link above to note that I was thinking about other stuff on the Main Page around the same time). Also, minor WP:GNOME issue in that "user:Lowellian" should be capitalized as "User:Lowellian". —Lowellian (reply) 02:47, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please Restore Ten Heavenly Stems Content

[edit]

Unfortunately, Mr. Deletion did it again.

(Uhh… mamma mia!)

I’ve read his “explanations”/“justifications”.

Please restore that awesome chart and the other great material!

Thank you so much!

(Will heavenly peace return to the Ten Heavenly Stems page? Will it return for good? Time will tell…) 2607:FEA8:A9A1:6500:BC40:8C02:C16B:454B (talk) 23:58, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User:2607:FEA8:A9A1:6500:BC40:8C02:C16B:454B: I can't do anything without consensus and further support from other users. The best thing you can do is to add your voice on Talk:Heavenly Stems and Talk:Earthly Branches and post an argument in support of restoration of that information and as to why his removals are unjustified. —Lowellian (reply) 00:18, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Primagen (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 20:41, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
